This programme on alcohol awareness is made up of 10 session plans that use discussion and practical activities to cover the issues of alcohol. The activities present information regarding the law and facts, and put young people in decision-making situations. The thought-provoking activities will help young people consider how to avoid risky situations where alcohol might adversely affect their judgement.The 10 session plans cover:
1) Understanding units of alcohol – To know what a unit of alcohol is and to understand how to estimate a safe number of units when drinking alcohol
2) Alcohol quiz – To develop a wider understanding of alcohol-related issues
3) Alcohol and drugs: what are the facts? – To know the effects of alcohol and other drugs and to understand the risks of drinking alcohol and taking other drugs
4) Alcohol and drugs: what are the risks? – To know the law relating to alcohol and other drugs and to understand the risks of drinking alcohol and using other drugs
5) Alcohol and driving – To understand that alcohol affects people in different ways and that there is no safe level of alcohol
6) Alcohol and sex – To understand the risks resulting from drinking alcohol and sexual relationships and to be able to avoid risky situations where alcohol might adversely affect their judgement
7) Alcoholism and addiction – To understand the meaning of alcoholism and addiction and to understand how people become addicted to alcohol
8) Circle Time activity – To understand the risks of drinking alcohol and to be able to assess the risks of drinking alcohol
9) Binge drinking – To understand the risks of binge drinking and to know how and where to get help

I know that the evenings often end with him falling over, being sick and having to be taken home, and on a few occasions he’s been arrested by the police.
